RB Salzburg v Liverpool odds, prediction & why Sadio Mane is a rested development

The champions of Europe need a point to keep a firm hold of their crown and advance to the knockout stages of this season's Champions League, Salzburg need a victory to progress.

But The Reds have secured only one clean sheet in their last 14 matches, Salzburg have scored in every game this season.

How is tonight's showdown going to play out? We asked the Echo's Chief Football Writer Ian Doyle for his verdict.

Win, lose or draw?

Red Bull Salzburg 2-2 Liverpool. The Austrians have scored 94 goals in 25 games this season and the Reds have struggled to keep opponents out, albeit without costing them too much in terms of points and results. Salzburg need to win, Liverpool don't. So, a draw then. The 10/3 price is big and the 2-2 correct score a massive 10/1 .

Who’s a good bet for first scorer?

Sadio Mane. The Senegalese will be a rested development after sitting it out at Bournemouth at the weekend and will be keen to make his mark against his former club. 17/4 is a good price for him to score first while he is Evens to get on the scoresheet at some time during the match.

Who’s on the naughty step?

With no Fabinho, first yellow has proven a little more tricky to predict. Dejan Lovren seems most likely if he starts.

Who’s on pens?

If Milner plays, and there's no guarantee of that, he's definitely the number one taker. After that, it's Salah. Maybe wait for the teamsheets before taking advantage of the 12/1 first scorer price for Milner or 10/3 any time.  Salah is a relatively generous 4/1 for the first goal with thepools.com.

Will Liverpool keep a clean sheet?

In all honesty, probably not. Liverpool's shut-out at Bournemouth was their first in 14 games and Erling Haaland, the young Salzburg striker, has scored about a billion goals this season. He's 6/5 to score at anytime in the match while Both Teams To Score is a nailed on 1/3 .
