RB Raheem Mostert signs 3-year deal with 49ers

It looked initially like Raheem Mostert would only be in San Francisco on his one-year restricted free agent tender. His agent, Brett Tessler, tweeted Friday that the running back and special teams ace had worked out a three-year deal with the 49ers.

A multi-year contract was always on the table. Tessler said when Mostert signed the one-year tender that the two sides had worked on a long-term deal, but the 26-year-old wanted to explore the free agent market.

The 49ers would’ve been able to match any deal offered to the restricted free agent.

Mostert is an extremely valuable member of the 49ers’ special teams units. However, he flashed his value as a running back as well last season. He picked up 261 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries, including a four-game stretch where he picked up 250 yards on 28 attempts. A broken forearm in Week 9 put him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Despite a logjam in the backfield, Mostert shouldn’t have a problem landing on the 53-man roster because of his special teams prowess.
