RB LeSean McCoy explains decision to sign with Chiefs over Chargers

Running back LeSean McCoy found a new home on Saturday.

Hours after being released by the Bills on cutdown day, the Chargers’ rival, the Chiefs signed McCoy to a one-year deal.

But if it wasn’t Kansas City, Los Angeles was going to be the 31-year old running back’s destination.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Terez A. Paylor, the Bolts offered a similar deal, but McCoy couldn’t pass on the opportunity of reuniting with his former coach, Andy Reid.

“This is probably my best fit. LA is far, I’ve got a 7 year old son. He wouldn’t like that very much. Also, the taxes,” McCoy said, per Kansas City Star’s Brooke Pryor.

Given RB Melvin Gordon’s holdout, we thought that McCoy would be an ideal addition, adding a veteran presence to a backfield which features Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson.

Now, the Chargers will get to see McCoy twice this upcoming season. He’ll join a backfield that includes starter Damien Williams and rookie Darwin Thompson.

Los Angeles faces off against Kansas City Week 11 in Mexico City and Week 17 for the season finale at Arrowhead Stadium.
