He told Welt: "It's hard to think about where you'll play next year if you want to step on the gas here and now."

However, the attacker has previously been active in driving rumours, talking up Liverpool's interest after Leipzig's Champions League win against Tottenham.

"Yes I know that Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment," he stated.

"When you're linked with that team it makes you very proud but in case of that, it's a pleasure, but I know Liverpool have a lot of good players.

"I have to improve myself and to learn much more things to get on this level and to play there."

In addition, he told Sky Germany: “Jurgen Klopp is the best coach in the world. There is a lot to suggest that my style of play would suit there (Liverpool).

"But I don't think about that at the moment because we have so much to do with Leipzig."
