RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has admitted he had a 'very, very good' offer from Leeds United over the summer.
Gvardiol signed for Leipzig in the summer from Dinamo Zagreb for around £14.4m, in a deal that has seen him loaned back out to the Croatian club.
The Whites were reportedly keen on signing the 18-year-old, but he chose to move to the Bundesliga club instead.
He revealed back in September that being loaned back out to Zagreb was a big part in choosing Leipzig over a move to Elland Road.
In an interview translated by Croatian Scout on Twitter, he said: "I'm happy and excited. I'll get back here and continue with the training and prepare for Thursday.
"The agreement goes in my favour. I hope it will be beneficial to me to prepare for a top-five league, the Bundesliga."
Now, in a chat with Index, Gvardiol has revealed he had a strong offer to move to Yorkshire but that Leipzig's record at developing young players stood out.
“Leeds’ offer was also very, very good,” the Croatian teenager said.
“But it was decided that Leipzig was a better option for the development of young players.
“An agreement was also reached that I could stay at Dinamo, so everything turned out great.
“I was under pressure while I was dealing with the transfer this summer. After I solved it, I don’t bother with any stories or what is being written.”
As it stands, Marcelo Bielsa has Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk and Luke Ayling to choose from as his central defender options.
Diego Llorente is expected to return to action quite soon, but Robin Koch is set to be out for another few months with a knee injury.
The Whites are next in action at the weekend, where they travel to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, looking for back-to-back Premier League victories.
