RB Leipzig slaughtered as Celtic's Champions League rivals face fresh fury and fake club claims

Celtic's Champions League rivals RB Leipzig have been hammered by Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin's president and brutally labelled a fake club in a random location.

The Scottish Premiership champions travel to Germany to face Marco Rose's side, who won at the weekend after a turbulent start to the season, on Tuesday in a huge Champions League clash. RB Leipzig are pointless after two games in the group stages. The controversial club are loathed in Germany after energy drinks giant Red Bull took over a fifth-tier team in 2009 - SSV Markranstadt - and invested millions in a bid to become Bundesliga. They are also the only club in the country who aren't owned by a majority of club members.

Fellow East German club and current Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin's fans always protest when they play RB and their president, Dirk Zingler, put the boot in ahead of their clash with Celtic. He pointed out: "Their corporate headquarters are in Austria. There are clubs in Leipzig, in Salzburg and in New York. Behind it is an Austrian beverage company that is funding sports clubs to strengthen its brand.

"Leipzig is just a random location. I am happy for Leipzig fans because they can watch Bundesliga football and Champions League football. But you should also be honest, RB are not an East German club. The project that RB have, it doesn't matter whether the club was in Leipzig or anywhere."
