Ralf Rangnick’s delight at guiding RB Leipzig to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history was slightly dampened when the former Schalke manager appeared to tear his hamstring during the post-match celebrations.
Players were presented with giant glasses of beer on the pitch after Leipzig’s 2-0 victory over Karlsruhe ensured they will finish the season as second division runners up behind champions Freiburg.
However, the party soon turned to despair for Rangnick. Chased by striker Davie Selke, the 57-year-old appeared to injure himself before being covered with beer.
When asked about the incident, Selke admitted he was avoiding his manager. “No, I’m too scared! That’s why I’m giving so many interviews, so I don’t have to go back to the dressing room. I’ll have to run away.
“He definitely tried to run from me, which isn’t a good idea - I caught him up, I won the race. Then something happened, he probably didn’t warm up enough!”
