RB Leipzig ready to trigger £22.5m Dominik Szoboszlai release clause to beat Arsenal to transfer

RB Leipzig are said to be quietly confident of pulling off the transfer of Dominik Szoboszlai in the January transfer window.

That's according to The Athletic, who say the German club are looking to trigger Szoboszlai's €25million (£22.5million) release clause.

That may be, in part, because Leipzig share the same owners as the midfielder's current club RB Salzburg with Red Bull controlling both clubs.

Arsenal are believed to be very keen on Szoboszlai, already making headway in their attempts to lure the Hungarian to the Emirates Stadium this winter.

And they aren't the only club with an interest, the likes of Real Madrid also tipped to make a move for the 20-year-old who scored a hat-trick today in his side's 8-2 win over St Polten.

But it seems as though Leipzig have stormed into pole position with a history of luring talent from their Red Bull sister club.

In recent years, the German Bundesliga side have signed the likes of Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano, Konrad Laimer and Hwang Hee-Chan from Salzburg, and they will be looking to add Szoboszlai to that list.

Szoboszlai joined Salzburg in 2018 from Leifering and he has gone on to rack up 53 league appearances to date, scoring 16 times and winning the Austrian Bundesliga three times.

He has also amassed international experience, earning 12 senior caps to date and scoring three times, the midfielder looking good for a place in Hungary's Euro 2020 squad next summer.

Before then, Arsenal will be hoping they can lure him to the Premier League, but it doesn't look particularly good with Leipzig said to be confident of pulling off the move.

The 20-year-old is under contract in Austra until 2022 but if his release clause was to be activated, there is little RB Salzburg could do to stand in his way of moving on.
