RB Leipzig 'on the verge' of £17m transfer that is terrible news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Arsenal appear to have missed out on signing Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

According to Sport Bild, as per transfermarkt, the 20-year-old is 'on the verge' of joining Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig when the January transfer window opens.

In addition, the report states that Szoboszlai will cost €20 million (£17m) plus add-ons to become the 18th player to move from Salzburg to Leipzig since 2012.

This news will serve as a blow to Arsenal and technical director Edu as the Hungary international had been tipped to improve Mikel Arteta's midfield options.

football.london first revealed the Gunners' interest in Szoboszlai in the summer of 2019 and scouts have keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder ever since.

And recent developments seemed encouraging for the north London outfit.

Last week as per Sport Witness, Matyas Esterhazy - the agent of Szoboszlai revealed the 20-year-old will not be signing for AC Milan despite having been close to an agreement twice and that "Arsenal’s interest is real".

Then came a major boost for the Gunners.

According to reports, as cited by Sport Witness, the Hungarian's agent has held talks with Arsenal regarding a move that could take place next summer.

However, it's looking increasingly likely that Szoboszlai will be on the move earlier than expected.

With that said, if reports in Germany are to be believed, the wonderkid won't be arriving at Arsenal to fill the void of an attacking midfielder.

As a result, Edu and Arteta will need to find an alternative and Houssem Aouar's name continued to be mentioned in the gossip columns.
