RB Leipzig given Inter Milan boost as deadline approaches for rumoured Liverpool target Timo Werner

Liverpool are claimed to have just 12 days to trigger Timo Werner's release clause if they want to purchase the striker for less than £50m.

According to Sky Sports, the rumoured transfer target is said to be available for £49m via a release clause inserted into the RB Leipzig contract he penned last summer.

The clause reportedly expires on June 15, and it was suggested the Reds might be able to then buy the 24-year-old for a lower price.

But following Mauro Icardi's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Inter Milan for €51m at the weekend, this could give the German outfit a boost in not wavering in their asking price.

Kaveh Solhekol seems to think that on the back of this 'benchmark' deal, with Werner three years younger than Icardi, Leipzig could demand a higher fee for the forward's acquisition despite the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The report also claims the Bundesliga talent's first choice is Anfield, though states Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United have both held talks with Werner.
