RB Leipzig chief reignites Jean-Kevin Augustin battle with Leeds United with transfer criticism

RB Leipzig have reignited their battle with Leeds United around Jean-Kevin Augustin after a club chief criticised the Whites' transfer spending this summer.

The Bundesliga side and Leeds have a disagreement regarding the striker following his loan stint at Elland Road in the second half of last season.

As part of his loan, there was an agreement for a permanent transfer if Leeds were to win promotion, which they did, and Leipzig's argument stems around this.

However, the legality of that clause is complicated by the delay to the end of the season due to the coronavirus crisis - which Leeds argue makes the extenuating circumstances of the global health crisis just cause to nullify any permanent deal.

After being relatively quiet for a while, the Bundesliga side have now reignited the debate as sporting director Florian Scholz has reignited the debate.

“The legal situation is clear. Leeds is currently in the process of spending a lot of money on the transfer market but does not stand by its contractual obligations. We are ready to take further steps," he told SportBuzzer.

Leeds splashed a club-record fee to sign Rodrigo from Valencia and have also signed Robin Koch during the summer transfer window.
