RB Leipzig chief puts Liverpool linked Timo Werner future in doubt with transfer market warning

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner but the Bundesliga club’s sporting director has cast doubt over his future after sharing his transfer fears as the coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep the planet.

The Reds have long been credited with interest in the Germany international, while it has been widely reported that he has a £51m release clause that needs to be activated by the end of April.

However, RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has warned how the long-lasting effects of COVID-19 could change the face of the transfer market, leaving the likes of Liverpool unable to afford Werner and result in him staying put in Germany.

Blood Red: The impact a Premier League suspension will have on the transfer market and Liverpool

“It is clear that Timo aroused desires at other clubs with his great performances with his goals and assists (but) everything is possible,” Krosche told Sport1.

"We do not know how the transfer market is developing. We are looking into a very foggy glass ball. We do not know what our resources are and what the other clubs have in terms of opportunities.

“England has the same problems as we do. Relying on the fact that the clocks there work differently just because they have investors is wrong.

“Investors also have economic constraints. The crisis affects not just one industry, but one that is global impact.

“We cannot estimate at all today whether the current values will still be stable in six months.”
