RB Leipzig chief makes Ibrahima Konate admission amid Liverpool transfer links

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is not concerned about the ongoing rumours surrounding Ibrahima Konate and a possible move to Liverpool this summer.

The ECHO understands Konate is on Liverpool’s shortlist of potential centre-back signings for the upcoming transfer window.

But his current side appear to be going through a number of key changes heading into next season.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Dayot Upamecano will leave the club at the end of the season and join German rivals Bayern Munich.

While on Tuesday morning, it was also confirmed that current Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann will be joining Upamecano at Bayern next season too.

The club’s sporting director Markus Krosche is also set to depart in the summer, while Konate continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

But when asked about the possibility of the French Under-21 international departing, and the already confirmed departures, Mintzlaff claimed he is not worried about the situation.

“No, not at all. In the past we have had changes on the coach, director and player side time and again,” he told German publication Bild via Sport Witness.

“And we have come back stronger every year and have been able to develop further. And I am also sure that we will take the next step again.

“We remain ambitious and do not act under pressure here, but self-determined.”

While speaking at the start of this month, Konate made it clear he is only focused on his future with Leipzig.

“There are often rumours in football and many believe them immediately,” he told the same German publication. “I or my agents didn’t get a call from Liverpool.

“I also have big goals with RB Leipzig. These are currently the best possible results in the Bundesliga, reaching the cup final and the U21 European Championship with France.

“I don’t want to be Dayot (Upamecano)’s successor. I’m me. We both came to Leipzig in 2017 and played well together here.

“Unfortunately, our paths are now parting. I’ll give Dayot the new job (at Bayern Munich) and continue doing my thing here. I have a contract until 2023. And contracts are there to fulfil.”
