RB Leipzig centre-back duo linked, Rodrigo De Paul and other Liverpool transfer rumours rated

Liverpool have been quiet in the January transfer window thus far. And with a little under two weeks remaining, that seems to be how the window will close.

Fans had hoped to see the club spend at the centre-back position, but unless a deal comes available in the closing days, that now seems unlikely.

But despite the Reds' relative anonymity in a market that is increasingly unused, the transfer rumour mill continues to churn, and there are a slew of reports linking the club with long-term targets.

We take a look at them here, including two centre-backs on the same team and two potential midfield targets.

Here is a round-up of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours and how we rate them.

Blood Red: Mohamed Salah sends contract message to Liverpool

Interest in RB Leipzig centre-back pair

Liverpool are interested in both RB Leipzig centre-backs, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahim Konate, per reports in Germany.

Upamecano has long been of reported interest, with the centre-back signing a new contract in the summer amid substantial links with an exit, while Konate is also apparently on Liverpool's radar.

This is according to German outlet Bild via The Liverpool Offside, which reports that Liverpool are keeping tabs on both players ahead of a potential summer transfer.

Upamecano's contract includes a £37.5million release clause which can be activated from the end of the season. He is widely expected to depart. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool would sign both or either, as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez should be fit and available by next season.

Scouting Rodrigo De Paul

Liverpool have sent scouts to watch Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, per recent reports.

The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds United, with the Yorkshire club reportedly having an offer rejected in the summer, and now journalist Fabrizio Romano states that Liverpool have been watching him, too, though he admitted that they have no interest in signing him right now.

"In this moment, Liverpool are not moving to sign De Paul in January, so we can say this is absolutely something that is completely not real," Romano told the Que Golazo Podcast.

"Next summer we will see because here in Italy we have rumours about Mino Raiola approaching Rodrigo De Paul as possibly his new player, so he is trying to get De Paul as his new player, and when there is Mino Raiola in the air, something big can happen.

"At the moment, for Liverpool, there is nothing, they sent their scouts to scout Rodrigo De Paul because we are talking about a good player, also a talented midfielder who always scores here in Serie A, but at the moment he is not a target for January."

Interest in Inter's Nicolo Barella

CalcioMercato via talkSPORT reports that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to compete for Inter Milan's 23-year-old midfielder, Nicolo Barella.

Barella has impressed at the heart of Antonio Conte's midfield after completing a £43m transfer from Cagliari following an initial loan from the fellow Serie A side.

Barella has been likened to Steven Gerrard due to his athleticism, versatility and attacking threat from deep, and was named one of the best midfielders in Europe by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

His current deal expires in 2024 and he would not be cheap, meaning a January transfer is highly unlikely.
