RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann reveals Pep Guardiola's help before Manchester United fixture

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola visited their training base ahead of their UEFA Champions League match with Manchester United in October.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side beat the Bundesliga side 5-0 in Group H but were knocked out of the competition in the reverse leg on matchday six with a disastrous defeat in Leipzig.

United produced one of their greatest displays of the season at Old Trafford, though, with a hat-trick from Marcus Rashford ensuring an emphatic victory.

Nagelsmann has now explained that Guardiola visited the Leipzig players and boss during their trip to Manchester during his day off.

“Pep, he has this sort of charisma," Nagelsmann told BILD.

"When we played United back in October, he came to visit the team and I on his day off just to say hello. That is very appreciative.”

Nagelsmann was touted as one of the potential replacements for Guardiola before he signed a new contract, and the German has previously spoken about his friendship with the City boss.

The Spaniard's contract was set to expire in the summer which had led to speculation over his long-term commitment to Man City.

Nagelsmann is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in world football at just 33 years old.

He led Leipzig to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season and his side will face Liverpool in the round of 16 knock-out stages.

City, meanwhile, face Borussia Monchengladbach as a reward for topping their group, with United taking on Real Sociedad in the Europa League in February after dropping out of the Champions League following defeat to Nagelsmann's Leipzig side when a draw would have been enough.

Leipzig are third in the Bundesliga this season and sit two points behind reigning champions Bayern Munich.
