RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann dismisses Tottenham links and discusses 'Baby Mourinho' tag

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has dismissed rumours that he could have become Tottenham manager.

The former Hoffenheim head-coach was linked to Spurs during Mauricio Pochettino's time at the club, and was said to be on the shortlist when they decided to remove the Argentine coach.

Nagelsmann only moved to Leipzig at the start of the current season, and dismissed links to the Premier League side during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash between the two teams on Wednesday.

"[Become Spurs boss?] Me? No."

The 32-year-old is one of the youngest coaches in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, and was previously dubbed the 'Baby Mourinho' by former Germany goalkeeper Time Wiese.

However, when asked about the tag, the coach insisted he has the utmost respect for the Spurs boss - and that the game is not about the coaches clashing, but the competition on the pitch.

"It is only a game between Leipzig and Tottenham," Nagelsmann told reporters. "Eight years ago when Tim Wiese called me Baby Mourinho, but that was only for two weeks.

"After that he called me Julian again. Tomorrow it is Leipzig against Tottenham, not Mourinho v Baby Mourinho.

"I have great respect for Mourinho. He has won lots of titles with big clubs, the Champions League twice. He has made his mark on European football at some big European clubs.

"I think it his 59th knockout game in the CL and it is my first so there is obviously respect there."
