RB Kenyan Drake already having career season, on pace for 1,000 yards

The Arizona Cardinals still have three games to go but running back Kenyan Drake has already had a career season. Coming off a dynamic second half of 2019, he has already set career marks in rushing yards and touchdowns.

Drake missed one game this season but is still the team’s leading rusher. He has 201 carries for 848 yards and nine touchdowns.

His previous career-high was set last season between the Cardinals and Miami Dolphins. He had 817 rushing yards for eight scores in 2019.

He has already had 31 more carries than he had last year and is one touch (combined rushing attempts and catches) from his 2019 total.

He is in pace for 1,060 rushing yards and 1,188 total yards from scrimmage. His highest single-season total for total yards was set last season when he had 1,162 yards from scrimmage.

Facing free agency for the second year in a row and potentially looking at a 1,000-yard season, he could find himself landing a long-term deal.

He hasn’t been great this year and hasn’t had the special games he did in the second half of last season, but he has been solid and has done exactly what the team has needed him to do, especially in the second half of games.

While he averages 4.2 yards per attempt on the season, that goes up to 5.3 in the second half of games and 6.0 in the fourth quarter.

He could have an even bigger role than normal this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles. Chase Edmonds will be a game-time decision with his ankle injury. If he can’t play, Drake could see more of the workload he had late last season when he was playing nearly all the snaps and getting all the touches in the running game.

His career season could be even better in the final three games.
