JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bears running back David Montgomery has had three of the top six games of his career this month and cruised to 95 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries against the Jaguars.
That put him at 1,001 yards for the season, making him the Bears’ first 1,000-yard rusher since Jordan Howard in 2017.
“The guys up front are doing a hell of a job,” Montgomery said of the Bears’ reshuffled offensive line. “They’ve been doing a hell of a job for a long time now, and I appreciate those guys. Me being able to get in a rhythm is not up to me; it’s up to those guys up front and they always do that for me.”
In his first nine games, Montgomery totaled 472 yards at 3.6 per carry. He has had 529 at 5.6 per carry over his last five.
The Bears drafted Montgomery in the third round last season hoping he would be an upgrade over Howard. He had 889 yards rushing as a rookie.
