RB coach Terry Robiskie on Leonard Fournette: ‘I think he has the desire to win’

Running backs coach Terry Robiskie hasn’t been coaching Leonard Fournette that long in Jacksonville, but it’s clear to him that the young tailback has the desire to be a champion. When asked by the media if he believed Fournette needed a push after a rough season in which he played just eight games and had some issues with the staff, Robiskie told the media that all young players basically need a push, and Fournette isn’t an exemption.

“I always think the young guys at that age need a little bit more push, a little bit more guidance, and a little bit more leadership,” Robiskie said Friday. “Leonard is one of those guys. He’s young but he’s got that ambition and he’s got the heart. One thing I feel in the early stages of us being together is that I think he wants to win. I think he wants to win the game and be a part of something special and believe he wants to win a Super Bowl. I think that year before last that little taste he had [of success] kind of pushes him a little more. I think he has the desire to win, and hopefully win a Super Bowl.”

Regardless as to how fans feel about Fournette’s drive, what Robiskie said about him has always been clear. Despite his several incidents on and off the field, it’s clear he has a desire to be the best. After all, he was one of the players who shed a few tears after losing the AFC Championship two seasons ago, which absolutely proved how much he loves the game.

Robiskie continued by discussing the first conversation he had with Fournette after he was named to the Jags’ staff — and again — he brought up the young running back’s desire and determination to be the Jags’ go-to player.

In addition to naming Robiskie the running backs coach, the Jags basically cleaned out their running backs room except for Fournette. That also could be a big reason he gets back on track as he now has a veteran in Alfred Blue to help with guidance and a rookie in Ryquell Armstead looking up to him. That’s a calculated move in which it’s clear the Jags were aware of, and it’s one that could pay off big in the long run.
