RB Chris Thompson makes signing official with Jags

It’s official, running back Chris Thompson is a Jacksonville Jaguar.

The veteran announced his signing via Instagram as the Jags had already come to an agreement in principle last week.

Thompson, 29, was initially drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2013 as a fifth-round selection. A year later Jags offensive coordinator Jay Gruden was named the team’s coach and the two spent up until 2019 together when Gruden was fired.

While with the Redskins, Thompson totaled 250 carries for 1,194 rushing yards and five touchdowns. However, it was his ability as a pass-catcher that got him a lot of time on the field as he accumulated 212 catches for 1,772 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Thompson will not only add a pass-catching threat for Gardner Minshew II, but he’ll also bring some experience to the running backs’ room. He’ll join a young group that consists of Leonard Fournette and Ryquell Armstead at the top and will provide the group with someone who is very familiar with Gruden’s new system.
