RB Chase Edmonds unlikely to play vs. Buccaneers

The Arizona Cardinals released running back Alfred Morris on Friday. With the addition of Kenyan Drake, he no longer was needed. It is a clear signal that there is progress being made with the injuries to David Johnson and Chase Edmonds.

However, it does not appear Edmonds will be ready for the Cardinals’ next game.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters Friday Edmonds is “not likely” to play this next week, “but he’s coming along.”

Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury in the second half of the team’s 31-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints. It was reported he could miss several weeks. He did not play against the 49ers. The Cardinals play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend and then the 49ers the week after that. Then they have a bye week. Perhaps he will be able to return to play the 49ers in Week 11 but it probably will be after the bye.

Edmonds’ role will likely be limited upon return. With David Johnson returning soon and with the addition of Kenyan Drake, it will be tough to find snaps for all three players.

That, though, is better than not having enough players at the positions for the snaps.
