RB Chase Edmonds could miss several weeks with possible high ankle sprain

The Arizona Cardinals might have lost running back Chase Edmonds for several weeks. He injured his ankle on the first offensive play of the game and was not able to return in the team’s 31-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The Cardinals fear he will be out a while.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he is scheduled to undergo further testing Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it is believed he suffered a high ankle sprain, which could sideline him up to as many as six weeks.

Cardinals sideline reporter Paul Calvisi reported that Edmonds attempted to return to the game but his ankle would not cooperate.

Injury places a greater load on James Conner and will give Eno Benjamin more of an opportunity. He scored his first NFL touchdown on Sunday and could see a significant role in the offense moving forward, especially since Jonathan Ward is still recovering from a concussion he suffered in Week 8.

It sounds like Edmonds will need a trip to injured reserve. The Cardinals played the Panthers this week and the Seahawks next week, and then they will have their bye week. If placed on IR this week, he could be eligible to return in Week 13 against the Chicago Bears and only miss two games, but that would only be if he heals by then.

Edmonds has 430 rushing yards and one touchdown, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. He has also caught 30 passes for 211 this season.
