Rayiranellur ascent not to be held this year too

PALAKKAD: For the second year in a row, the Rayiranellur Malakayattam (ascent of the Rayiranellur Hill) will not be taking place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, disappointing thousands of people from the state and Tamil Nadu, who used to throng the famous destination where a figure of ‘Naranath Bhranthan’ and a Durga temple are located.

However, rituals will be held as part of it. The Laksharchana was held on Friday at the Devi temple on the hilltop. It is believed that Goddess Durga appeared in front of Naranath Bhranthan and blessed him on the first day of the Malayalam month of Thulam. Hence, people climb the hill on that day in the belief that the goddess will bless them.
