WASHINGTON _ Lincoln City Councilwoman Jane Raybould won the Democratic Senate primary in Nebraska Tuesday night. She will face GOP Sen. Deb Fischer in the fall.
Raybould was expected to win the Democratic primary, but she still faces an uphill battle in the Cornhusker state. President Donald Trump carried Nebraska by 26 points in 2016. Fischer won her first term in 2012 by 16 points.
The Democrat is hoping to capitalize on her ties to the state. She touts that she is a fourth-generation Nebraskan, and notes her work with her family's grocery business. Raybould has also run statewide before. In 2014 she ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor.
Fischer was adding campaign staff ahead of the general election and touted polling showing her ahead of Raybould, Inside Elections' Nathan Gonzales reported. Inside Elections rates the race Solid Republican.
