Ray Parlour's message to Liverpool fans and Jurgen Klopp after falling shy of Invincibles record

Ray Parlour has admitted that he celebrated Liverpool's loss against Watford - but has insisted that it is not the most important aspect of winning a Premier League title.

Liverpool travelled to Vicarage Road expecting to pick up another routine victory in their pursuit of their first league title success in 30 years, but they were left stunned by Nigel Pearson's side, who delivered an outstanding display to beat Jurgen Klopp's side 3-0.

Defeat for Liverpool, of course, ended their hopes of matching Arsenal's achievement of going an entire Premier League campaign without feeling the pain of a defeat.

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal should have scored more in Portsmouth win

For Parlour, who was part of the Invincibles Arsenal team in the 2003/04 campaign, it was pleasing to see Liverpool's hopes of equalling Arsenal's record disappear, but whilst at the same time, he insisted that winning the title is the most important aspect.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Parlour, who was asked what he did when the full-time whistle went at Vicarage Road on Saturday, said: "I had a few drinks that night, yeah!

"Records are there to be broken and I’m sure if a Liverpool player was in the same place I was they’d want us to lose as well! But it’s no big deal, really.

"I know it’s a very good record to have and I’m very proud of it, but the most important thing is winning the league and Liverpool are still going to do that.

"At the start of the season it’s all about winning the league title, it’s not about going unbeaten – that’s a bonus if that happens.

"I know Arsene Wenger said with our team that we could go unbeaten, but at the start of the season all Jurgen Klopp was interested in was winning the Premier League, which it looks like they’re going to do no problem, so it’s been an impressive season anyway."

Whilst the Reds, baring a disastrous run, will still be crowned Premier League champions in the coming weeks, they still have a chance of laying their hands on the FA Cup and retaining their UEFA Champions League crown as well.

"Now, it’s all about can they add the FA Cup, can they add the Champions League?," Parlour added.

"They’ve still got an opportunity in the second-leg against Atletico Madrid, and it’s going to be difficult because they’re a good side, they’re well organised and hard to break down, but you still fancy Liverpool at Anfield.

"So there’s still lots to play for."
