Ray MacDonnell dead: All My Children star dies aged 93 from natural causes

American actor Ray MacDonnell has died.

The star - famed for appearing on ABC drama All My Children for 40-years - passed away on June 10.

He died from natural causes, Michael Fairman TV reports, at his home in Chappaqua, New York.

Ray was one of the original actors cast in 1970 on All My Children as Dr. Joe Martin and he worked on the series until it moved its production from New York to LA in 2009.

He then made several guest appearances the following year alongside his on-screen wife, then played by Lee Meriwether, and starred in the final episode when the series wrapped.

In 2013 the show was revived as a web series with and Ray agreeing to take part in a few episodes.

However, the revival was short-lived and only aired between February and April 2013.

In 2004, Ray was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys.

Ray also appeared in the role of Philip Capice for eight years on The Edge of Night and also starred on Broadway.

Following Ray's death being announced, several fans have taken to Twitter to remember the star.

One penned: "I was so happy to see him appear on the Prospect Park revival, sharp as ever. He was always a thoughtful and reliable performer, no matter the material. So sorry to hear he has passed."

Another added: "RIP sir! Thank you for all the years of entertaining on All My Children."
