'Ray Donovan' actor Steve Bean dead at 58 after battle with nose cancer

Actor Steve Bean _ who appeared on "Ray Donovan," "Days of Our Lives," "Charmed" and a number of other popular series over the course of a lengthy career _ has died following a battle with nose cancer.

He was 58.

His death was reported by Variety.

Bean, whose real name was Steve Levy, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma in November 2016.

He chronicled his fight with the disease last year in an essay titled "My Year Without a Nose" that was published by Mel Magazine, in which he wrote about wearing a prosthetic nose after having his removed.

"I was in surgery for 12 hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m," he wrote in the piece. "They removed my nose, my tumor, my upper gums, all of my upper teeth and two-thirds of my upper palate. Soon thereafter, in preparation for radiation treatments, the majority of my bottom teeth were also removed. I was left with a total of four teeth, all on the bottom."

Bean's final acting credit came in 2016 on "Ray Donovan," for which he appeared on two episodes as Mr. Marcioni.

His first credited gig came as a reporter on "Cheers" in 1988, and he also appeared in the 1997 comedy film "Mouse Hunt" and on a 2016 episode of "Shameless."

An obituary for the actor on Legacy.com says he died on Jan. 21 at Los Angeles home, and that he's survived by his wife Caroline Carrigan, son Jacob, two sisters and his parents.
