Ray D'Arcy reveals he sought counselling over constant worrying

Ray D’Arcy has told how he sought counselling over his constant worrying.

The radio and TV star also admitted he fears he’ll get the chop from RTE and revealed he’ll become a wedding DJ if his career collapses.

The 54-year-old said: “I have gone through that in my head and the various things I could do. I would be a very good wedding and birthday DJ.

“I even have the app installed on my phone. Well it’s an option isn’t it.”

The dad of two admitted he’s a born worrier and opened up about seeing a therapist.

He said: “I went to one years ago but I don’t go anymore.

“There was a time in my life when I needed someone to talk to and that time has passed.

“I’ve always been a worrier. I do the maths about once a week. Tom is just seven so in 12 years time I will be officially retiring age and Tom will only be going to university. That’s a real thing and I have to do something about it in financial terms.

“I don’t have a pension with my job, not that I’d expect anyone to feel sorry for me.” The broadcaster has found a way to cope with his worrying mind.

He said: “I take it step by step. If I lose my job I may not be able to pay the mortgage but we can sell the house and move down the country and get a cheaper house and get a job somewhere else and the kids can move school and so on.

“Sometimes you don’t share such matters with your partner because you can’t be annoying them all the time and they may have their own stuff going on.”

D’Arcy’s TV show is back in September despite constant speculation it would not return.

He told the RTE Guide: “It’s not an interesting news story to say the show is coming back. We had a slightly shorter season this year but we did well.”

The DJ is also gearing up for Run With Ray on RTE Radio One, hitting the road on June 10 for five special live shows, in Cork, Kildare, Wexford, Limerick and Dublin.
