Raw meat, dog waste and pork drippings thrown into mosque car park in 'vile' hate crime

A mosque in Sneinton has been targeted during a series of hate crimes that have seen raw meat, dog waste and pork drippings thrown into its car park.

The Jamia Masjid Sultania mosque in Sneinton Dale posted details of the crimes - that also include hate mail being sent to the mosque - on social media on May 20 to ask nearby residents to "remain vigilant".

Nottinghamshire Police have been made aware of the incidents that took place only days before the Muslim celebration of Eid.

Police have also appealed to anyone with any knowledge of the incidents to come forward and have said the force has maintained a presence in the Sneinton area since they occurred.

Superintendent Mat Healey from Nottinghamshire Police said: “We have been made aware of these vile incidents which are all the more unpleasant given that this is such a special time of year for our local Muslim communities who will be celebrating Eid Al-Fitr this weekend.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes a zero-tolerance approach to all hate crime and I must be clear that incidents of this nature absolutely will not be tolerated.

“Our officers have been actively investigating these incidents since the time they were first reported and local policing teams across the city have been in regular contact with mosques in their area to offer reassurance to them.

“We have also been maintaining a uniformed presence in the Sneinton area since this came to our attention and that will continue throughout the weekend to offer further reassurance.

“I would urge anyone with any information about these incidents or any other hate crime in our county to call Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible in the knowledge that their reports will be taken seriously and they will be thoroughly investigated.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.

Nottinghamshire Live has attempted to contact Jamia Masjid Sultania for comment.
