Ravens WR Devin Duvernay continuing to make his mark in expanded role

The Baltimore Ravens decided to trust their young wide receivers as they entered the 2022 season. After the trade of Marquise Brown and the departures of Sammy Watkins and Miles Boykin, the only outside addition the team made at the position during the offseason was Demarcus Robinson.

One of the wideouts already on the roster who has made the most of his opportunity has been Devin Duvernay. The third-year man out of Texas has either had 50 receiving yards or a touchdown in every game so far in 2022, and has established important chemistry with quarterback Lamar Jackson. He’s also earned the praise of multiple teammates and coaches, including head coach John Harbaugh.

“Yes, that’s exactly right. He’s just kind of taking steps every week, it almost seems like still, in terms of impacting games. That’s probably the difference; he’s really impacting games now in a big way, with the return game and the pass, but now he’s still doing the return game, but in the passing game, he’s coming up with plays and running the ball. Some of our read option stuff, he’s a guy who’s part of the read, and sometimes he gets it and sometimes he doesn’t. Then, he’s in the passing game, he’s moving around, motioning, just doing a lot of great stuff for us.”

So far this season, Duvernay has 17 receptions for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns in five weeks. He has established himself as a big-play threat who can also be relied upon to come down with tough catches in key situations, which has been a major asset to a team that has been missing wide receiver Rashod Bateman for the past few weeks.
