Ravens Week 1 offensive snap counts: Marquise Brown excels in limited snaps

The Baltimore Ravens have never had much luck when it comes to drafting and developing their own wide receivers. Instead, Baltimore has more often had to rely on picking up older free agents to fill holes and hope they still had enough in the tank to help lift up their passing attack.

This season, the Ravens went back to the drawing board and took two wide receivers in the first three rounds — Marquise Brown and Miles Boykin. With one week down in the regular season, both players are already looking like the real deal. But against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Brown had his breakout party.

Brown’s first NFL catch was a 47-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown where a defender missed a tackle and it became a foot race no one else was going to win. His second touchdown was a perfectly placed deep shot where Brown got behind the defender and just couldn’t be caught, going 83 yards for the score.

What’s even more impressive than Brown putting up such a crazy performance was how efficient he was. On just 14 snaps, Brown caught four of his five targets for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

Brown had 10.5 yards for every time he was on the field. That would be a solid total for a wide receiver to have per catch. On that front, Brown’s 36.75 yards-per-catch in Week 1 tops the league. It’s those numbers that go to show just how explosive Baltimore’s first-round pick can be. And you better believe he’ll get a little more attention in the following weeks as defenses should respect that speed just a little more.
