The Baltimore Ravens are on the lookout for former AAF players. With the AAF closing its doors last week, player contracts have also effectively been voided, making them free agents in the NFL once again. Though many of the former AAF players have some experience in the NFL, they needed a little extra time to develop.
One such player the Ravens are showing some interest in is former Orlando Apollos wide receiver Chris Thompson. Baltimore is having Thompson in for a visit.
Thompson played at Florida before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2017. Thompson played in 13 games for the Texans, catching five passes for 84 yards. Though Thompson was primarily a return specialist for Houston, returning six punts for 39 yards and 17 kickoffs for 369 yards.
With the Apollos, Thompson was rather unproductive as well. In eight games with Orlando, Thompson caught just eight of his 16 targets for 123 yards.
Thompson is a lankier wide receiver at 6-foot-0 and 175 pounds but he has blazing 4.37 40-yard dash speed. The Ravens have a need for deep speed on their roster after John Brown left in free agency. However, given his limited production both in the NFL and AAF, Thompson is to be viewed more as a developmental prospect Baltimore could use on special teams and potentially on the practice squad.
