Ravens trade down with Eagles in 1st round of 2019 draft

The Baltimore Ravens are movers and shakers in each NFL draft, and this year was no different. With only eight selections in the 2019 NFL draft and plenty of needs and a wealth of talent on Day 2, the Ravens were able to find a trade partner to move back.

Baltimore has traded their No. 22 overall selection to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the 25th (first round), 127th (fourth round) and 197th (sixth round) picks.

The Ravens now hold 10 total selections in the 2019 NFL draft after this trade.

Last year, the Ravens held only seven selections coming into the draft. But multiple trades in the first round were part of the overall picture that left Baltimore with 12 picks by the time the dust settled.

New general manager Eric DeCosta fits Ozzie Newsome’s strategy of moving back to acquire more picks and more chances at success when possible. It’s a philosophy that has panned out for Baltimore more often than not. Given the Ravens’ needs and those positions representing the best value in the second and third rounds, dropping back makes a ton of sense for Baltimore as they look to find multiple Week 1 starters.
