Report: Ravens to sign S Earl Thomas to 4-year deal worth $55 million

The Baltimore Ravens were in need of a starting free safety after letting Eric Weddle go, and with the trade of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns late Tuesday, the hole in the secondary became far more pressing for Baltimore.

Cut to Wednesday morning and the Ravens are set to sign free agent safety Earl Thomas to a four-year, $55 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal is not official until the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET today.

Thomas is coming off a 2018 season that ended prematurely on injured reserve with a fractured leg. But Thomas has been a highly productive safety for the Seattle Seahawks over the last nine years. It’s that type of production Baltimore will need to help combat AFC teams that continue to build up their passing attacks.

Even playing in just four games last season, Thomas collected three interceptions, five passes defensed and 22 combined tackles. Over the last three seasons, Thomas has seven interceptions, including returning one for a touchdown, 22 passes defensed, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and 96 combined tackles in 29 games.
