Ravens sign CB Justin Bethel

The Baltimore Ravens aren’t done with their two moves this offseason. They’re adding some much-needed depth to their secondary and beefing up a special teams unit that is losing respected coach Jerry Rosburg. The Ravens have signed cornerback Justin Bethel.

Bethel has played for the Atlanta Falcons most recently but was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals — where he played for six seasons.

Though he’s been in the league for seven years and made the Pro Bowl three times before (2013-2015), he’s only started 14 games. Most of his playing time and his Pro Bowl nods have come for his special teams play. Last season with the Falcons, he played no snaps on defense but logged in nearly 60 percent of the special-teams snaps for Atlanta.

Bethel has made plays when given the chance, though. Bethel has four interceptions, including three returned for a touchdown over the course of his career. While he hasn’t been used as a starter much before, he’ll likely add some healthy depth to a secondary that is set to be tested in the AFC North this season.
