Ravens to release RB Kenneth Dixon with fractured knee

Baltimore Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon was given as many chances as a player could ask for. Even with an uphill battle to make the Ravens’ 53-man roster this season, Dixon was given plenty of chances to earn himself a spot on the team. But he just couldn’t stay healthy, initially heading to Baltimore’s injured reserve as the Ravens cut down to 53 players.

At Monday’s press conference, coach John Harbaugh said Dixon suffered a fractured knee and will be released with an injury designation, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec.

Dixon dealt with an injury that held him out of a preseason game as well as some practices this offseason. But as has been the case for Dixon’s career, he performed well when on the field. In three preseason games, Dixon rushed 23 times for 101 yards, finishing with the second-highest yards-per-carry average among the running backs behind Mark Ingram.

However, this latest injury ends a string of them for Dixon. Throughout his four-year career, he’s ended up on injured reserve twice. Dixon was also suspended twice for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs and substance abuse policy, respectively. With yet another injury keeping him from the field and a deep depth chart at running back this year, it makes sense Baltimore will be moving on from Dixon.
