Ravens to pull double duty at 2019 NFL combine by talking to agents

Many believe the NFL scouting combine is all about watching the draft prospects. In reality, there is so much more going on behind the scenes folks don’t get to see but is critical to a team’s offseason plans. The Baltimore Ravens are among the teams that can get a ton done by pulling double duty at the combine.

While the combine is focused on the NFL draft, it’s full of scouts, general managers and agents. It’s an opportunity to sit down and continue negotiations face-to-face on pending free agents. For the Ravens, general manager Eric DeCosta will get the chance to either open up a dialogue or continue one for linebackers Terrell Suggs and C.J. Mosley.

It’s not all about re-signing players, though. DeCosta will also get a chance to talk about current players on the roster that might need to take a pay cut to remain with the team. Guys like cornerback Jimmy Smith and safety Eric Weddle could be targets to either redo their deals to be more cap-friendly or be cut.

This is part of the normal cycle for the combine. But for the Ravens, they’ll get a chance to make a lot of their moves in the upcoming week or at least build on meetings they’ll have at the combine.
