Report: Ravens sign LB L.J. Fort to 2-year, $5.5M extension

The Baltimore Ravens are always keeping an eye on the future. With question marks at linebacker, the Ravens decided to extend one of their promising young players.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Baltimore gave L.J. Fort a two-year extension worth $5.5 million with $3.25 million guaranteed.

This is a huge win for both Fort and the Ravens. Fort was cut five weeks ago by the Philadelphia Eagles, allowing Baltimore to swoop in and sign him. After a few years of traveling around the league, Fort gets his first big contract., and the Ravens keep a talented young linebacker that has stepped up.

With Josh Bynes and Patrick Onwuasor set to hit free agency next year, Fort gives the Ravens stability at a key position and for cheap.

Fort has started the last three games for Baltimore and has one sack and 11 combined tackles playing in four games.

Fort joins other players signed to extensions this season: cornerback Tavon Young, kicker Justin Tucker, guard Marshal Yanda and wide receiver Willie Snead.
