Ravens sign former Steelers LB L.J. Fort

After a few poor performances, the Baltimore Ravens’ defense is trying to get back on the right track. They’ve struggled in the last three games, including giving up over 500 total net yards against the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns in each of the last two weeks.

To help bolster the middle of their defense, the Ravens announced they’ve signed journeyman linebacker L.J. Fort to their 53-man roster.

Fort entered the league in 2012 as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Browns. He’s bounced around to seven different teams, including a stint with the Philadelphia Eagles this season. The move comes after the Ravens placed linebacker Otaro Alaka (hamstring) on injured reserve prior to their Week 4 game against Cleveland.

Fort has played in 65 total games, starting just three. He has 65 combined tackles, three sacks, one interception, seven passes defended and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The Ravens got a good look at Fort in training camp, joining the Eagles for joint practices ahead of their preseason game. They apparently liked what they saw enough to keep him in mind more than a month later. He’ll add some immediate depth and experience to a thinning, young linebacker corps.
