The regular season has wrapped up and the Baltimore Ravens are still playing football. But just because the playoffs are underway doesn’t mean all offseason activity has ceased in the offices of the Under Armour Performance Center. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta is still putting in work, preparing for a 2021 season before even wrapping up the one they’re currently in.
According to the SportsTrust Advisors agency, former Ohio State wide receiver Binjimen Victor signed a futures contract with Baltimore on Friday.
Victor went unselected in the 2020 NFL draft before signing to the New York Giants’ practice squad. While Victor didn’t see any snaps this season, DeCosta and the Ravens’ front office must have liked what they’ve seen from his tape at Ohio State enough to bring him on board.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 199 pounds, Victor fits a familiar theme among Baltimore’s wide receivers. He’s got a big frame and can make defenders miss when he has the ball in his hands, though his 4.6-second 40-yard-dash time at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine left a bit to be desired and likely facilitated him going undrafted. In 12 games during his final year at Ohio State, Victor caught 35 passes for 573 yards and six touchdowns. Throughout his college career, Victor didn’t get a ton of playing time but made the most of it, finding the end zone 18 times over 33 games.
With four wide receivers set to be unrestricted free agents this offseason, Baltimore is wise to get a jump on filling the void. While Willie Snead and Dez Bryant are the only receivers in that group to catch a pass this season, it’s important for the team to keep adding developmental depth. Granted, the team hasn’t been particularly adept at scouting and developing wide receivers throughout their history, but you never know when a diamond in the rough will emerge.
