Ravens sign former Bears K Elliott Fry

Looking to rest their special teams starters for the final preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens announced the signing of kicker Elliott Fry today.

Baltimore recently traded kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a fifth-round pick — tied for the highest draft pick traded for a kicker in the history of the NFL.

While Fry likely won’t have enough time to truly develop his skills and be a trade option, he and the Ravens do get a chance to become familiar with each other. As we’ve seen before, guys like Fry tend to make their way back to the team later on as training camp legs, where they can continue their development.

Fry was recently a part of the Chicago Bears’ kicking competition, being released just last week. He had gone 1-of-2 in the preseason, connecting on a 43-yard kick but missing from 47 yards.
