Ravens sign C Greg Mancz to a Reserve/Futures contract

The Baltimore Ravens were busy on Friday. After the team announced they re-signed tight end Nick Boyle to a two-year contract extension, they did not wait long to add protection for Lamar Jackson also. According to the Ravens’ Twitter account, the team signed center Greg Mancz to a Reserve/Futures contract. Mancz is the 13th player Baltimore has signed to a futures contract this offseason.

This isn’t Mancz’s first time with Baltimore as the team signed him to the practice squad a few weeks ago. By locking Mancz to a futures contract, the Ravens are keeping him in town a little longer, which could mean he’ll get a chance to compete for the starting center job in training camp. Considering center is one of Baltimore’s top offseason priorities, having extra help on the depth chart is never a bad thing.

The Ravens struggled all season long at center. Matt Skura was initially the starter before frequent errant snaps saw him head to the bench in favor of Patrick Mekari. Unfortunately, Mekari had a case of the bad snaps at the worst possible time, firing a few balls off the mark in the divisional game against the Buffalo Bills.

Mancz had signed with the Houston Texans after going undrafted in 2015 and has found playing time all across the offensive line throughout his six-year career. While a futures contract typically means the player is pretty inexperienced, that’s not the case for Mancz, who has played in 58 games, starting 28 of them.
