Ravens RB Mark Ingram to run in ’40 Yards of Gold’ tournament

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. had put up an offseason bet that he could beat anyone in the 40-yard dash. Now, he’ll have to put up or shut up.

In the inaugural “40 Yards of Gold” tournament, Ginn will go up against a bevy of NFL talent to determine which player is the fastest. Among the group of 26 players is Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram, a former teammate of Ginn’s on the Saints.

It’s an intriguing matchup since Ingram ran the 40-yard dash at a fast 4.53 seconds at Alabama’s pro day. However, that was back in 2011. Ginn put up a 4.38-second 40-yard dash time at the NFL combine. But much like Ingram, that was way back in 2007, and people don’t get faster with age.

Realistically, this tournament doesn’t feature the fastest players in the league. Ingram isn’t even the fastest player on the Ravens’ roster right now. Quarterback Lamar Jackson didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine but said he can put up a 4.34-second time. Rookie wide receiver Marquise Brown is blazingly fast as well, with a 4.34-second 40 time.

While the tournament is tentatively scheduled for June 29 in Miami, the venue hasn’t been finalized yet and the organizers aren’t selling tickets at this time. So check back for updates.
