Ravens RB Alex Collins arrested after car crash Friday morning near team HQ

Baltimore Ravens running back Alex Collins was arrested on Friday morning in Owings Mills. The charges were not immediately clear, but Ravens vice president of public relations Chad Steele told the Baltimore Sun the team was aware of the situation.

Police responded to a report that a car had crashed into a tree in the 10000 block of Dolfield Road at 6:48 a.m, per the Baltimore Sun. That is less than a mile from the Ravens’ Under Armour Performance Center.

Collins had a disappointing 2018 season in which he wound up on injured reserve after being demoted in favor of running back Gus Edwards. It’s unclear whether Baltimore will try to re-sign Collins, who is a pending restricted free agent. The arrest might make the decision a little tougher for the Ravens.

After rushing for 973 yards in 2017, Collins struggled in 2018 to find any running room. Collins rushed 114 times for 411 yards and seven touchdowns, posting a paltry 3.6 yard-per-carry average over 10 games. By comparison, Edwards started six games and gained 718 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 137 attempts — a 5.2 yard-per-carry average.

At the 2019 NFL combine, coach John Harbaugh called Edwards Baltimore’s No. 1 running back but said he would bring in competition. It’s unclear how Collins would factor into the Ravens’ plans next season — if he even does.
