Ravens place TE Josh Oliver on reserve/COVID-19 list; 12 players on 53-man roster now sidelined

BALTIMORE — The Ravens placed tight end Josh Oliver on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, the eighth straight day in which at least one Ravens player has been sidelined by the league’s coronavirus protocols.

The Ravens’ reserve/COVID-19 list now has 12 players from their 53-man roster. Quarterback Chris Streveler was also placed on the reserve list Thursday, the fifth practice squad member designated amid the team’s recent outbreak.

Oliver has played in 13 of 14 games this season, appearing in 14% of the Ravens’ offensive snaps, including just five Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. He has eight catches on 14 targets for 65 yards this year, and has also played 21% of the Ravens’ special teams snaps.

Streveler’s designation means the Ravens could have just two quarterbacks available for Sunday’s pivotal game against the Cincinnati Bengals: Tyler Huntley and Josh Johnson. Starter Lamar Jackson has not practiced since injuring his ankle in a Week 14 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Several starters and key contributors on the reserve/COVID-19 list remain in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game, including wide receiver Sammy Watkins, defensive lineman Justin Madubuike, outside linebacker Justin Houston, cornerbacks Jimmy Smith and Chris Westry and safety Chuck Clark.

Under the NFL’s updated COVID-19 protocols, fully vaccinated players who test positive can clear protocol within one day if they register two negative tests and are asymptomatic. Players who are not vaccinated must quarantine for 10 days, which would rule out any player who tests positive for a game within that time frame.

The omicron variant has hit the NFL hard over the past two weeks, depleting rosters and forcing the league to reschedule games. On Thursday, 46 more players were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
