Ravens place special teams ace Brynden Trawick on IR

The Baltimore Ravens placed safety Brynden Trawick on injured reserve ahead of their Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the team’s Twitter account. Trawick suffered an elbow injury in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, walking off the field with his arm clearly tender. He missed the last two games, and with Baltimore having worked out a number of players this week, the team put him on injured reserve.

Trawick was brought in to add depth to the Ravens’ secondary this offseason as well as provide valuable special teams experience. With coach John Harbaugh being a former special teams coordinator, Baltimore takes that phase of the game very seriously. Trawick was surprisingly kept on the 53-man roster, making the team after a few subsequent moves like putting cornerbacks Tavon Young and Iman Marshall on injured reserve.

However, defensive lapses in the last few weeks have the Ravens eyeing up the free agent market once again. Earlier in the week, Baltimore brought in six players for workouts, signing linebackers L.J. Fort and Josh Bynes. With Trawick heading to IR and outside linebacker Tim Williams having been cut, the Ravens have a roster spot to potentially fill with a much-needed pass rusher.
