Ravens install SkyCam at M&T Bank Stadium, first NFL team to operate aerial camera system

The Ravens already had the best home theater experience in Baltimore, with new 200-foot-wide, ultra-high-definition video boards installed earlier this year.

This fall, they'll have footage worthy of showcasing, even if it is occasionally of Ryan Mallett throwing passes.

The Ravens announced Tuesday that with the installation of a SkyCam system at M&T Bank Stadium, the franchise will be the first NFL team to operate the "world's leading aerial camera system" for every home game. SkyCam was already in place for the team's preseason opener against the Washington Redskins.

"Adding SkyCam ... is another example of our commitment to creating an outstanding game-day experience for Ravens fans," Ravens vice president of broadcasting and game-day productions Jay O'Brien said in a release. "We constantly strive to produce the NFL's best and most captivating video content. With SkyCam capabilities, we believe our in-game production rises to an even higher level."

Normally, SkyCam systems are installed only temporarily for prime-time games. But with the Ravens' setup, SkyCam chief technical officer Stephen Wharton said they can lower operating costs and help "establish a model for expansion to other venues and teams."

According to the team website, the Ravens' partnership with SkyCam is part of a five-year agreement, and the camera will be used for live-action and replay footage.
