Ravens injuries: S Tony Jefferson out for rest of year with knee injury

The Baltimore Ravens lost safety Tony Jefferson in the second half of their Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jefferson went down holding his knee, needing to be carted off the field. Though he was listed as doubtful to return, it didn’t look good and that gut feeling turned out to be correct.

Following Baltimore’s 26-23 overtime win over Pittsburgh, coach John Harbaugh noted Jefferson was out for the rest of the season. Harbaugh said the injury consisted of at least an ACL injury but likely included more damage.

Though Jefferson was one of our duds through the first quarter of the season, it’s still a massive blow to the Ravens defense. Jefferson was the longest-tenured defensive back in Baltimore’s secondary and one of the most experienced players on the team. Jefferson had been wearing the radio helmet after getting the responsibility earlier this season from linebacker Patrick Onwuasor.

With Jefferson out, Baltimore will have to turn to either Chuck Clark or DeShon Elliott. They could also hit the free-agent market to try to find a more experienced option.
