Ravens have $24.6M in salary cap space after cutting Michael Crabtree

The Baltimore Ravens are set to release wide receiver Michael Crabtree on Monday. The move will free up about $4.7 million for the Ravens’ 2019 salary cap, giving them a total of about $24.6 million in available space, according to Over The Cap.

The move comes before Baltimore has officially traded quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos. Once Flacco is off the books as well, the Ravens will have an estimated $34.6 million in 2019 salary cap space, per Over The Cap.

In a retooling under young quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore could use all the salary cap space they can get. They have pending free agents to try to re-sign, a group that includes linebackers C.J. Mosley, Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith, and wide receiver John Brown. After the Ravens gave cornerback Tavon Young a contract extension a year early, it’s also possible Baltimore will extend some of their other young players this offseason.

Crabtree could be the first of several cap casualties for the Ravens. Players like cornerback Jimmy Smith, safety Eric Weddle and others could join him.
