Ravens had highest WR drop rate in 2018

The Baltimore Ravens tried to remake their offense last offseason. After a season full of dropped passes, Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman and Jeremy Maclin were let go to make way for a whole new wide receiver corps. Well, 2018 wasn’t any better as Baltimore had the highest drop rate among wide receivers in the entire league.

The Ravens brought in John Brown, Willie Snead and Michael Crabtree to try and remake the unit. As I noted before the season, it was a wide receiver corps full of potential but concerning drop rates. Predictably, all three had their issues catching passes last season.

Among all wide receivers with at least 88 targets, Crabtree and Brown finished Nos. 1 and 2 respectively in drops. Brown’s seven dropped passes put him at 14.3 percent, while Crabtree’s 11 drops put him at 16.9 percent. Snead, Brown and Crabtree totaled 23 drops in 2018. By comparison, all the Ravens’ wide receivers totaled just 15 drops in 2017.

It’s a problem Baltimore has to remedy immediately if they wish to have a successful offense. While the Ravens will lean on their run game in 2019, in order for the offense and quarterback Lamar Jackson to be as efficient as Baltimore needs them to be, wide receivers can’t be putting balls on the turf when they could be viable plays.
